Policy & Advocacy
Neighborhood Partnerships knows that advocacy for improved public systems is one of the ways we can most positively impact the lives of low income Oregonians. Neighborhood Partnerships works directly to improve public policy in targeted areas, maintains state-wide and regional collaborative efforts to impact policy, and we work to support the advocacy of others.
Since 2004, Neighborhood Partnerships has seen the effectiveness of coordinated advocacy in our work with the Housing Alliance to increase housing opportunities across the state. For more about the Housing Alliance, click here.
Our work with the Housing Alliance to develop consistent and common themes convinced us of the need to develop the communications skills of organizations working on similar goals. Since 2009, we have worked intensively with Patrick Bresette of the Public Works project and with the support of Dr. Larry Wallack and Dr. Liana Winett of Portland State University to train cohorts of advocates in communications that advance policy change. Since 2009, Neighborhood Partnerships has worked in cooperation with CFED, a national organization promoting the expansion of economic opportunity. We are a state partner, and rely on the CFED Assets and Opportunity Framework to help us analyze state policy progress and gaps. For more about our work to expand economic opportunity, click here.
In 2012, our advocacy will continue to focus on creating housing opportunities for Oregonians across the state, as well as on building the financial resilience of Oregon communities by re-creating and expanding pathways to the middle class.
