NPF’s Policy Initiative

Oregonians should not have to choose between paying for housing and buying food and medicine.

Affordable housing is the foundation of a strong community. It serves as the catalyst for thriving individuals, families, small business communities, neighborhoods and regions.

Oregon is facing a crisis in housing affordability. One in four Oregonians is living in housing that stretches the family budget, forcing difficult choices. Housing prices are escalating rapidly, threatening to change our state forever.

Together, we can address this crisis. To build affordable housing we need a combination of government and private funds and creative policy tools used at the state or local government level. NPF is a partner in the Housing Alliance, a group which is working together to persuade decision-makers that affordable housing is the foundation of a strong community, creating opportunity for success.
