During even numbered years, the Oregon Legislature convenes for just thirty-five days. As you can imagine, during such a quick legislative session advocates and elected officials alike are working so hard and so fast that things can feel like a bit of a blur. Which makes Housing Opportunity Day that much more important.
Housing Opportunity Day is so important to our work together to advocate for housing solutions. It’s the time when our community members gather together to share their housing stories and remind our legislators why we all need a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home. This year, we were joined in Salem by 130 incredible people from all over the state. Thank you to Street Roots vendors, the residents of affordable housing communities and affordable housing providers from Reach CDC, Northwest Housing Alternatives, NEDCO, Cornerstone Community Housing, and Homes for Good, the Outside In youth, and the other dedicated individuals who spent the day meeting with their legislators.
We encouraged our legislators to increase the document recording fee and to support other housing efforts this session.
We connected with each and every legislative office – sharing housing stories, providing important policy information, and delivering house-shaped cookies. The energy generated at Housing Opportunity Day is powerful and it builds our momentum to increase housing opportunity across Oregon!
Did you miss out Housing Opportunity Day this year? There’s still time to help make sure that everyone has a safe place to call home! Read this blogpost to learn how you can support housing efforts this session.
