The Oregon Economic Justice Roundtable is a place for us as Oregonians to come together and talk about what economic and racial justice could and should look like in Oregon. We want to provide an opportunity for private foundations, financial institutions, community-based organizations, and advocacy groups to be able to share space and have conversations to build relationships and act.
We believe that economic and racial justice means creating environments and systems of abundance by AND for Black, Indigenous, Latine, Asian, and all communities of color – so that every Oregonian has what they need to thrive.
This kind of justice redistributes wealth and power to provide thriving communities and dignified, productive, safe, and creative lives of self-determination now and for the seven generations ahead.
We believe that economic and racial justice ends unequal treatment based on racial exclusion and bias, and other forms of exclusion under systems, policies, practices, and narratives that create wealth disparities and the generational loss of wealth.
We think it means acknowledging the role of public and private systems and institutions – such as banks, philanthropy, and government – to extract land, labor, money, and other forms of wealth from Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and other communities of color and to serve as instruments of repair.
We envision a culture and community in Oregon that nourishes a sense of belonging, respect, and dignity among and between communities and people. We seek to create an environment and systems of abundance by and for communities of color so that Oregonians live beyond the basics of safety and security and into the freedom to actualize dreams, and the power of communities to control their own financial and economic destiny.
